Join us in a Goa that not many get to know, but everyone wishes they had.
When we started The Local Beat in June 2018, we didn’t realize we were tapping into the Goa
of the '70s and '80s — still alive in all its easygoing, carefree charm. Too often we heard,
“That old, charming Goa is long gone”. That Goa is still around.
You just need to know where and how to find it.
That’s where The Local Beat comes in.
Over the years, we've come to know this Goa intimately. And when we take you on an outing,
we are sharing a quiet, unhurried conversation with a Goa most people miss.
A Goa of cozy communities, music, feasts, picnics, weddings, processions, parties, and laughter.
Where disappointment didn’t linger, resentment got washed down
with a swig of feni and friendly banter.
Doing nothing wasn’t laziness — it was a way of life. That’s sussegado for you: totally chilled,
no guilt. Afternoon naps were sacred. Days revolved around the poder--bread-man,
nustekann--fisher-woman, posorkar--shopkeeper, bhatkar--landowner, and malo--barber.
And it revolved around nature. Nature was the stage for everything: joy, rest, renewal.
Nature provided all the entertainment, diversion, relaxation and restoration that one could want.
